I think that Candide contains a lot of satire in it. Most of them are against the church, the king, and the members of the aristocracy. It was smart of Voltaire to add satire in it because this actually made the story funny and grabbed the reader's attention. Posted by soyoung93 on May 16, 2008. |

i don't think some parts should be considered humorous, they are more like a mockery the various institutions. regarding to the old woman's but getting chopped off, that is more a painful and disgusting image, NOT FUNNY!!! satire is a polite way to insult somebody, so there will always be people who agree and those who will disagree.
